So your going about life, enjoying your weekend, family, a nice weekend meal! Then Murphy's annoying little Laws rears their nasty head, you go into your basement and there's water everywhere! S**T! This was the rude surprise for a customer in Pasadena CA. So this customer's next step was to contact his "Local Pasadena Plumber! Care One Plumbing. We arrived onsite to determine what needed mending, luckily for our customer it wasn't to bad of a situation. So Care One Plumbers, drained down the 2 story home, luckily customer had a sump pump in his basement to aid in draining the complete home. As we were going about the repair, we noticed the water heater shut off was hanging by a thread. So we advised the Pasadena homeowner now was the time to swap that valve out and save some money versus coming back at some later date and doing this all over again......he agreed! So after all was said and done, this Pasadena Homeowner was contemplating the future.

He stated that he had grown tired of the stress of having multiple leaks in his 100 year old home! mind you this home had been copper re-piped some 35ish years prior. And the copper was starting to pinhole from excessive wear. This home has a hot water re-circulating pump system, if not set up correctly this will age your plumbing faster than anything. But after 35ish years this copper water piping has held up pretty well, but time is catching up to it.

So, when is enough......enough? that is a decision that has many factors. Primarily what is the water system? copper? what grade copper? builder's grade installation? water quality? how many leaks have you had? how much secondary damage? galvanized pipe (your way past time to replace)? what is your timeline for the home (forever vs. flip)? what is your financial situation? All these important questions are critical in making the right decision for your situation and tolerance for pain.

While copper or PEX re-piping your home isn't sexy! well unless.......a hot shower, flushing a toilet, etc etc is something you don't consider sexy? Me........I think it's pretty sexy not waking up to water/damage everywhere and then a Hot Shower to start the day. But I'm weird that way!

Sometimes the unforeseen cost and hassle of a copper/PEX re-pipe, is worth the piece of mind! A budgeted expense that in some instances can be financed. Care One Plumbing saving Holly Stubby Floor Furnaces for Decades

Care One Plumbing is widely recognized Holly Stubby Furnace experts, with over 3 decades of preserving and restoring these Locally Made treasures. Holly Stubby heaters were manufactured in Pasadena CA. These furnaces were workhorse floor and wall heaters that are installed up and down California.

There are thousands of these furnaces still in use, and many home owners are very protective of their Holly Stubby's. Why shouldn't they be they look fantastic and are age appropriate for 40's. 50's, 60's and 70's homes. But in order for these heaters to remain safe and effective they do need maintenance and or rebuilding. That's where Care One Plumbing Inc. comes in! we are one of the few companies capable of servicing these heaters properly and safely. Unfortunately we have come across many heaters that were "serviced" but what we find is bad practices to complete butcher jobs.......and at that point there isn't much we can do! We a potential customer calls about their heater, we caution them about letting service or Gas Co. people mess with the heaters.

With the Holly Stubby Furnaces, there are a few components that are extremely difficult to replace if damaged. Specifically the rod valves used to turn the pilot and main burner off/on. These valves typically have not been serviced for decades, and are a critical component. These valves are typically seized or difficult to turn, that's because there is a fine layer of specialty grease that allows the valve to rotate and more importantly prevent gas leaks. Please take note........These valves should never be forced, irreparable damage and or a safety hazard can occur.

Care One Plumbing typically will completely rebuild and restore these heaters, why simple! these heaters usually have not been touched or maintain in decades. When there's a failure in one or more components, does it makes sense to drop the heater pan and perform all the labor to replace 1 part.....No it doesn't. So we always perform a complete and comprehensive restoration. We break the complete heater pan down cand completely dissemble all components of the Holly Stubby. We start with a complete service of the rod valves and burner orifice, this includes removal of uninvited guests and their home! (spider & web). We then clean the burner to ensure proper flame across the complete burner. We then install a quality pilot generator assembly and new aluminum tubing and secure the pilot assembly to prevent delayed ignition (bad as it sounds). We then install a new thermostatically controlled gas valve (B60 replacement) and then a new quality pressure regulator. Everything is reassembled into the cleaned pan and secured. We then inspect the firebox and reinstall the heater pan and secure, if hardware is missing? we replace it! We then install a new gas master shut off and a full sized appliance connector, we test for gas leaks and then connect the thermostat wiring. Inside the home we vacuum the heater case and firebox and then install a good quality wall thermostat. We test the heater for proper operation and safety.

There are also some other components that are critical for the safe operation of the heater such as inspection cap. This part is often damaged or missing from these heaters, we normally have replacements or can replace the mica glass if needed. The Gas Company will "Red Tag" the heater and turn off with out this critical piece.

Also the venting and Down Draft Diverter and critical components of the system, damaged DDD or venting can lead to carbon monoxide entering the living space and is a health hazard. So Care One Plumbing is able to replaced damaged venting and or remanucture a replacement DDD for your furnace. All these components are needed to maintain a safe and effective heating system.

Fixing Clogged Sewer Lines

When your home or business's sewer line is backing up and overflowing with #1 and #2, all bets are off! You need help fast! with the main concern being to clear the blockage and prevent any secondary damage. But once the fire is put out, has the problem been taken care of properly.......or has the problem just been postponed? Great question! lets look at the situation.When you roto-rooter, snake, or cable a sewer line.....basically what is happening......is a cable machine is working it's way into the sewer line to physically break up the obstruction. This can be a very effective way of clearing the blockage if done correctly!

How can you screw it up? Y ou ask! very easily I assure you! the ways are many! and can be dangerous to your plumbing......or worse yet......your body! There are many stories I can relate to you, about people getting seriously in trouble with running a sewer machine. Twisting up cables inside your sewer is the least of the issue! twisting up a cable around a body part and popping it off is a real possibility!!! I've seen it happen! So assuming the operator is competent, then the next issue is using the proper size machine and cable! if that is sorted out, then the last issue is selecting the proper blade attachment.

The way it works is, you run the cable and blade into the blockage and let the cable build up torque. Once the just right amount of torque builds up......your either clear the blockage or twist up the cable inside the machine or the pipe! When done correctly the pipe can be cleared effectively but not completely, specifically when dealing with roots. This is where a cable machine falls short! with a full size blade (4" blade 4" pipe) basically the walls are scraped down including the obstruction. The roots are fibrous and wont be removed by scraping the walls.

This is where the Hydro jetter comes in to fill the void that a cable could never do! Roots, Grease, Accumulation, Scale, Sand and Grit!.......No Problem! for the jetter! There are various nozzles and hoses to fit all applications. We have specialty stainless steel and bronze trap hoses for smaller lines in commercial kitchens or food production plants.

These hoses are capable of clearing out grease and food obstructions, depending on the severity of the blockage we will run the cable down the line to open the line. We will then follow up with the hydro-jet hose to remove the build up and restore proper flow. We service many commercial kitchens and its always amazing to see the coagulated grease blow out of a clean out and then show the customer how effective the jetter really is!!!
